Heartstrings: Extended
Through her signature series ‘Heartstrings’, Ceris Dyfi Jones utilises crochet to depict such human experiences as overwhelm, connection, failure and triumph. The process of creation is, in itself, a form of sensory play as the artist finds comfort in the softness of the yarn used and the meditative craft of crochet. Despite this, a contrasting discomfort is also created for the artist as vulnerable experiences and emotions are depicted in the final pieces. These themes of Comfort vs Discomfort are common in the works of Ceris Dyfi Jones and can also be felt in the figure’s stoic, toy-like innocence which stands in opposition to the unpredictable shaping of the ‘Heartstrings.’
